Cadesky Tax is a tax consulting firm based in Toronto, Ontario. We work with a wide range of clients including private businesses, owner-managers, multi-jurisdictional families and businesses, multi-national corporations and high net worth individuals. We assist in designing and implementing tax strategies that result in minimizing tax for our clients.
About the Role
Located in our Downtown office, the Junior Preparer will work on Canadian and U.S. tax compliance matters. This is an in-office position ideal for someone eager to develop their skills in a supportive, learning-focused environment.
Requirements
• Must have strong interpersonal skills – able to communicate effectively, written and verbally, with clients, client’s advisors, and fellow team members in English
• Must have good computer skills including experience with Microsoft Excel and Word
• Receptive to direction and guidance
• Attention to detail, able to do self-review of any work before submitting to senior staff
• Willing to learn
• Be able to do honest self-assessments and be able to approach senior staff with questions
• Able to work overtime if required
• Some accounting experience would be preferred
Job Functions
• Recognize, sort and track various types of tax slips and information, compare to prior year to determine what may be missing and what is new.
• Organization and preparation of Working Paper Files
• Prepare working papers (Excel) to summarize income for Canadian and US tax purposes
• Data entry for Canadian and US tax purposes (slips and manual entries)
• Preparation of Capital Gains Schedules (based on information received from clients and/or their financial advisors)
• Complete FBAR and T1135 data entries
• Ability to perform a self-review and reconcile tax return to working papers
• Ability to keep track and act on any CRA or IRS Notices. Ensure senior staff is fully informed.
• Ability to prepare draft engagement letters and follow up with staff to ensure engagement letters are finalized and sent to clients for signature
• Follow up with clients to get back signed engagement letters and, if applicable, retainers
• Ability to keep track of outstanding signed forms and follow up with clients. Ensure received signed forms are acted upon accordingly.
• Calls to CRA for progress and status updates of support provided
